US A Decade Behind In Crypto Innovation And Regulation: Paul Atkins
Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins has conceded that the United States lags at least ten years behind global competitors in cryptocurrency regulation and innovation. The admission underscores a growing recognition within Washington that ambiguous frameworks have stifled domestic crypto development.
Atkins pledged to prioritize closing this gap, positioning the SEC as a future "Securities and Innovation Commission." Regulatory uncertainty has eroded America's competitiveness, he noted, with clearer frameworks abroad attracting projects that might otherwise have launched in US markets.
The SEC is now operating at full capacity to establish comprehensive crypto regulations, moving beyond its current case-by-case enforcement approach. "We're building a structure that supports innovation while protecting investors," Atkins stated, emphasizing the need to balance growth with safeguards.
